Delhi Seminar: CIR sponsors an annual, week-long seminar on international relations in the Asian context. In recent years, this seminar has taken place at the University of Chicago’s Delhi Center in New Delhi, India. As preparation for the seminar, students accepted to the program enroll in a specialized course prior to the quarter in which the trip occurs.
The Delhi seminar has included opportunities to meet Indian scholars and practitioners currently appointed in Indian universities, think tanks, and government. Topics discussed have included South Asian security and political economy, human rights, and climate change. Generous support from the Delhi Center has covered all student costs for the seminar in the past, including international airfare, lodging, and most meals. Future conferences may be held in alternative locations.
- CIR Career Exploration Trek: This is a new, one-day trek that introduces students to varying career opportunities in the Chicago area. In previous years, students have met with alums working at Chicago-area organizations such as the Urban Education Institute, the German-American Chamber of Commerce, the MacArthur Foundation, and NERA Economic Consulting. In preparation, students work on completing a professional resume and “elevator speech.”
- Think Tank Trek: UChicagoGRAD sponsors an annual trek to explore the think tank ecosystem in Washington, D.C. or New York. This trek gives attendees opportunities to explore organizations where their academic skills can be leveraged to solve problems and influence policy on local, national, and global scales.
