Class of '03

I entered the CIR program right out of college, which is not right for some but was perfect for me. I was able to really focus in on my particular interests and fill out the gaps in my undergraduate study.

Alumni Career Panel

Alumni panelists

CIR annually hosts a CIR Alumni Career Panel which is a special CIR-only program of ideas, strategies and advice from recent CIR alumni who have translated their University of Chicago studies into challenging and rewarding careers. This year it will be held on Monday, March 3rd, 2008.

2008 Panelists

"The CIR Career Panel 2007 was well attended by students immersed in current coursework but actively thinking about "what's next." I was honored to moderate that panel as the alumni participating in the event represented a wonderfully diverse group when parsed by sector, company size and geography. The panelists were generous with their time, highly willing to share their experiences and perspectives on transitioning to life after the CIR, and made themselves available for networking after the event. In sum, alumni participation in events such as this one demonstrates a continued support of the program and an involvement in furthering a sense of on-going community."

Alumni Placement

Over the last five years, at least 85% of our CIR students successfully graduated within twelve months of matriculation. 78% of students responding to the CIR exit interview in June 2006 reported that they had found employment or had been accepted either into a doctoral or professional (business, law, public policy) program at the time of graduation. Twenty eight percent of those students had accepted positions with such government organizations as the U.S. Department of State, the Government of Singapore, United States Army, and the Texas Department of Transportation. Twenty-four percent of reporting graduates indicated that they could be continuing on in academia in Political Science, Law, or African Studies. Forty-eight percent of respondents reported that they had found positions in private for-profit or not-for-profit financial advisory consulting services, international law firms, think tanks, or risk analysis firms.
