CIR Application Instructions
Online graduate applications for the 2010-11 academic year are now available.
Application Components
A completed CIR application should contain the following:
- A completed online graduate application
- Official transcript from all undergraduate institutions
- Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test Scores (institution code: 1832 and Subject/Dept. Code: 2299), from all three sections
- Statement of Purpose (approximately 800 words, or 1-3 pages)
- 3 letters of recommendation, preferably from academic writers familiar with your work
- 55$ non-refundable application fee
- International applicants for admission the University of Chicago must meet the English language requirements outlined by the Division of Social Sciences at: https://internationalaffairs.uchicago.edu/students/prospective/toefl.shtml
- A ten to twenty page writing sample (perhaps from a seminar paper or senior thesis)
In its admissions process, the Committee on International Relations considers many factors: academic background, intellectual interests, work experience, and the fit of the candidate with the strengths of the program. Deadlines and How to Apply
Applications are due by January 4 for admission to the autumn quarter of the next academic year. The Office of Admissions must receive ALL materials supporting your application by the appropriate deadline.
The online graduate application will be made available on September 1st, with matriculation in September of the following year.
