History of CIR

Hans Morgenthau and Quincy Wright

The University of Chicago's Committee on International Relations (CIR), which began its activities in 1928, is the nation's oldest graduate program in international affairs. Two of the Committee's founders, Hans Morgenthau and Quincy Wright, were important students of American foreign policy and helped to found the discipline of International Relations. Today CIR's faculty continues this distinguished tradition.
